Sir Waldo Weathers (born March 1, 1950 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American singer , entertainer and saxophonist . He was a member of James Brown's band for 15 years .

Life

Waldo Weathers first appeared in a club with the band New Birth at the age of twelve. As a saxophonist, Weathers started out with rhythm and blues bands, but soon switched to jazz and funk . In 1985 he was recognized as the first colored country sax player by the Country Music Hall of Fame .

From 1979 to 1989 Weathers was on stage with the music greats Charley Pride and Johnnie Taylor. Waldo Weathers headlined the MS Europa from 2005 to 2009 . From 2010 to 2011 he accompanied Phil Collins on Germany's stages.

Waldo Weathers was a member of the James Brown Band from 1993 to 2008 and during this time also played several solos on Brown's albums and the live DVD Live at the House of Blues . Weathers also appeared on stage with BB King , Al Green , Little Richard , Harriet Lewis and many more.

In August 2008 Waldo Weathers was knighted by the German "Duke of the Meinbrexen manor " . Since then he has been called "Sir Waldo Weathers of Meinbrexen".

Sir Waldo Weathers plays and sings in the show band Sweet Soul Music Revue and in his two own bands, the Funk Circus and Classic Soul Orchestra.

Sir Waldo's Funk Circus

Together with his band Funk Circus, Sir Weathers plays covers by James Brown , Maceo Parker , Bootsy Collins and also plays his own pieces from his solo albums. Waldo Weathers takes on the role of lead singer and saxophonist.

Sir Waldo's Classical Soul Orchestra

Under the name "Classical Soul Orchestra", Waldo Weathers presents his own versions of great classical soul pieces, as well as his own pieces from his albums. The band consists of up to 25 live musicians and, under the direction of Waldo Weathers and Marquis de Shoelch, also interprets songs by genre-untypical artists such as B. Bob Marley .
