Band history

In 2018, composer and producer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet brought together the three singers Justine Galmiche, Pierrick Valence and Mattjö Haussy and let them form the band Skáld. The debut single Rún has already had around 20 million streams on YouTube. The band itself received a Silver Award for more than 100,000 subscribers. They played at the Wacken Open Air , the Hellfest , the Castle Party Festival , the Rock Oz'Arènes and the Imandra Viking Fest , among others .

Her debut album Vikings Chant was released on September 20, 2019 via the major label Universal Music in Germany. The album was released in France in February 2019 under the title Le Chants de Vikings . The album reached chart positions in Germany and France.

Music genre

Musically, the trio imitates the singing of the skalds . The texts are accordingly in Norwegian and Old Norwegian . Traditional original instruments Skalden as tribal percussion, are also used shaman drums , animal bones, Lyra , Talharpa , citole , Jouhikko and various harps. The texts mainly deal with Nordic mythology. The group's specialty also includes cover versions of contemporary hits such as Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes , Riders on the Storm by the Doors and High Hopes by Pink Floyd on these very instruments.

Musical influences come from the Neofolk . Although they are portrayed in the marketing as "a unique project inspired by Norse mythology", it is a band whose music style is reminiscent of bands such as the early Faun , Wardruna , Einar Selvik and Kaunan , among others .
