Szkotowo [ ʃkɔˈtɔvɔ ] (German: Skottau ) is a village in Poland , 10 km northwest of the city of Nidzica . It belongs to the municipality of Kozłowo , Powiat Nidzicki in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

history

The first documentary mention of the place Skottau took place on October 14, 1348. Skottau belonged to the Neidenburg district in Masuria until 1945 and was the capital of the parish of the same name . There was a church in Skottau even before the Reformation .

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Skottau belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether it would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or join Poland. In Skottau (village and estate), 179 people voted to remain with East Prussia, while Poland did not vote.

On January 20, 1945, Skottau was occupied by the Red Army . From 1975 to 1998 the place belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship .

Parish

Until 1945 Skottau was a Protestant parish. The places Frankenau , Kownatken , Lippau , Michalken and Rontzken also belonged to this parish . Karl Flöß was among the pastors.
