Frąknowo [frɔŋkˈnɔvɔ] (German Frankenau ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in the municipality of Nidzica . Frąknowo is east of Michałki (Michalken), north of Rączki (Rontzken / Hornheim), south of Waplewo (Waplitz) and west of Dobrzyn (Gutfeld). It is a typical Masurian village with a village pond and is located on state road 7 (also European route 77 ) from Warsaw to Gdansk .

history

Today's Frąknowo (then Frankenau) was first mentioned in a document in 1355. At least since 1384 it was a noble estate. In the late 18th century and early 19th century, the place was converted into a farming village. This development came to an end in 1855. Frankenau belonged to the Skottau parish and was part of the Neidenburg district in East Prussia until 1945 . During the First World War , after the invasion of the Russian army, fighting took place here during the Battle of Tannenberg .

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Frankenau belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether it would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or join Poland. In Frankenau, 140 people voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not receive any votes.

At the end of the Second World War , on January 20, 1945, the place was conquered by the Red Army and later handed over to Poland .
