history

After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia , Slovakia found itself in a deserted situation. There were no longer any airlines connecting Slovakia with the rest of the world. The CSA was now a purely Czech airline. Starting in 1995, thought was given to founding a national airline, after various experts u. a. in cooperation with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) it was agreed that it is possible to establish a national airline. In 1996 Slovenské aerolínie, as was founded as a joint stock company. Two years later, on May 1, 1998, the scheduled flight service from Bratislava to Moscow-Sheremetyevo (Russian: Шереметьево) began.

On April 14, 2000, the first flight for the UN took place within the framework of UNICEF to Karachi and Pristina. On April 16, Slovenské aerolínie became the official airline for the Slovak national soccer team. On December 1, the President of the Slovak Republic Rudolf Schuster flew with SLL for the first time (from Bratislava to Košice ). The first Boeing 737-300 (OM-AAD, name Košice) entered the fleet in 2003, and the last Tupolev Tu-154-100 left the fleet on November 19 .

From May 2004 there was an intensive cooperation with Austrian Airlines . In January 2005 the Austrian Airlines Group took over 62% of the shares in Slovenské aerolínie, whereby SLL became a member of the AAG. On June 25th, the Fokker 100 (OM-AAC) was baptized in the name of the oldest city in Slovakia, Nitra . The airline's technical operations were spun off in 2006 and became a 100% subsidiary of Austrian Technik.

In 2007, the Austrian Airlines Group announced the cessation of flight operations for the Slovak airline because the government in Bratislava would not have complied with the agreed assumption of liabilities in the amount of 6 million euros. At the same time, two of the three machines were shut down by the AUA to secure the investment. The board of the Slovenské aerolínie announced that from now on they only want to fly in charter. However, the last machine was reclaimed from the leaser. For this reason Slovenské aerolínie had to file for bankruptcy on March 6, 2007.
