Smythe Division

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Smythe Division was one of the divisions in the North American professional ice hockey league NHL . The league was divided into two Conferences ( Campbell Conference and Prince of Wales Conference ) until 1993 , which in turn were divided into divisions. One of these was the Smythe Division, which was founded in 1974 as part of the Campbell Conference.

With the expansion of the league in 1993 and the subsequent reform of the league system, the division was replaced by the Pacific Division .

The Smythe Division was named after Conn Smythe , the founder of the Toronto Maple Leafs . The Edmonton Oilers are the record champions of the Smythe Division with six league titles at the end of the regular season.
