Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is a tactical shooter developed and published by CI Games for Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 .

action

The game begins with the player taking control of the U.S. Marine Cole Anderson in the Philippines . CIA specialty agent Diaz goes to an old Russian radar post to destroy it while working on a tip some mercenaries gathered there to negotiate a biological weapon deal . While Diaz destroys it, he hears hostile chatter about the capture of a spy who works for the PSC from the mercenaries. Diaz orders a team to rescue the agent while Anderson sets out to provide deckfire from a cave overlooking the resort where the soldier is being held and where the alleged deal is set to take place. They save the soldier, but while Anderson oversees the deal, Anderson sees one of the dealers as Merinov, an old Aquantaince from his past. The entire team is then ambushed by an enemy sniper, and everyone but Anderson is either killed or captured. Anderson goes to a village to intercept the transfer of the bio-weapon and his captured teammates. He manages to save Diaz and Gomez just as they are about to be executed, but the bioweapon is lost. Both agents team up with Anderson, but Gomez is killed while fleeing from the pursuing mercenaries. After successfully escaping from their pursuers, Diaz remarks: "It's Sarajevo again."

Anderson was sent to the brig for disobeying direct orders (rescuing his teammates instead of securing the bio-agent WMD, which was the primary objective). He remembers the events in Sarajevo in 1993, when he and his scout Carl Maddox were commissioned to take photos of the genocide of the Serbian armed forces led by Marko Vladić during the Bosnian War . In town they meet a Russian contact Merinov. After securing a strategic point and taking pictures of the genocide, Maddox loses his composure because he is unable to continue monitoring the atrocities and defies orders to kill Vladić. Anderson is reluctant to follow him. Merinov shows them a collapsed building that towers over Vladić's position. Merinov searches for transportation for Maddox and Anderson while they ambush the Serbian commander. Anderson shoots at Vladić and they run to the extraction point. There Merinov betrays them to the Serbian armed forces and they are captured. Anderson flees to prevent Merinov from adding genocide to US forces. Anderson learns from Command that Maddox is actually a traitor working with Merinov, who manipulated him into killing Vladić and freeing his troops to participate in arms smuggling. He is ordered to kill Maddox instead of Merinov. Anderson shoots Maddox in a moving jeep and keeps the shell from the bullet with which he shot Maddox.

Back in prison, Diaz visits Cole and informs him that he has called in favors to get him out of the brig and back into action with him as they need him to kill Merinov, who is ready to be the bio-agent to sell to a fanatical Jihadi warlord in Kashmir - one consequence of which could spark a war between Pakistan and India and benefit Merinov's arms smuggling operation. Diaz and Anderson go to Tibet to murder Merinov and retrieve the weapons of mass destruction. On the way to the trading post, they have an accident and lose their equipment. After recovering their equipment and escaping a collapsing cave passage, they finally reach the nest that overlooks the location of the ambush. While trying to shoot Merinov, Anderson sees Maddox, who apparently survived his shot from the helicopter. Maddox notices them and alerts his own mercenaries to the ambush. Anderson shoots and kills Merinov through the glass of the helicopter, causing it to crash. However, Maddox survives and secures the bio-weapon and mocks Anderson for pursuing him. Diaz and Anderson go after Maddox, which eventually leads to Anderson fighting a sniper duel with Maddox. Eventually Anderson shoots and kills Maddox, securing the bio-weapon. Diaz asks him if someone is waiting for him at home, to which Anderson replies, " My rifle is my best friend, it's my life " and drops the grenade he kept for 20 years.

Downloadable content

Siberian Strike

The events in this Downloadable Content (DLC) act as a precursor to the events in the original game. The player takes on again the role of Cole Anderson, who was smuggled deep behind enemy lines in Siberia to track down a CIA mole, secure all information and, if possible, extract a CIA mole, which in a strictly secret Russian research base was used in a possible development of a biochemical weapons of mass destruction program. Due to the inconsistent nature of the stake and the fact that it is a black operation, the player has no tactical support available so all of his decisions are entirely at his own discretion.

Gameplay

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is a tactical shooter that uses stealth, hand-to-hand assassinations and sniping techniques from which it is named. The gameplay features realistic bullet physics that take into account distance, wind and bullet drop when snapping targets.

publication

Initial release was scheduled for August 2012, but Eurogamer revealed that the game was postponed to October, which was then postponed again to January 2013 on July 26, 2012. The date was further moved to March 12, 2013.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was released in both the normal retail version and a limited Bulletproof Steelbook Edition, which includes the soundtrack, a booklet about the sniper's story, and additional downloadable content.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 received "mixed or average" reviews according to the review aggregator Metacritic .

Gameplanet's reviewer writes that the game is not as linear as other modern (i.e., at the time of the game) shothers and calls it "easily its greatest strength".

GameSpot praises the script, acting, graphics and sound: “A well-written, well-acted script gives the game a great action film atmosphere, as do authentic-looking graphics and animations supported by CryEngine 3. You are wonderfully drawn to excellent sound effects. Gun noises, the shouts of enemy voices, the distant rattle of gunfire in war-torn Sarajevo and various atmospheric noises such as the hum of the Philippine jungle in the background are all processed extremely well and add to the tension if you line up every careful shot. "

"Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is like a bargain at the seedy used car dealer around the corner: At first glance everything looks solid, but there is something wrong under the body."
