Cameo appearances

So You Want to Be in Pictures is a 1947 American short film directed by Richard L. Bare , who also wrote the screenplay. Gordon Hollingshead , the producer, was nominated for an Oscar for the film.

The film premiered on June 7, 1947 in the USA.

content

Up-and-coming actor Joe McDoakes is busy practicing at home, for example reenacting a scene from Algiers with Charles Boyer , asking the imaginary Hedy Lamarr with a French accent to come to the Casbah with him, or scenes from the period film If I were King with Imitating Ronald Colman . After he got an appointment for an interview with the director Anthony Anguish, he went to the studio. However, he makes the mistake of entering the set while the film is being filmed, which means that the director doesn't get a good first impression of him. He then begins to imitate Boyer's accent in poor quality, as does Coleman's. The director leaves the set and his assistant takes over the reins. After 88 takes, Anguish takes over one last time. Although not everything went the way McDoakes wanted and despite his faux pas, he got a role in the film, which, however, did not meet his expectations at all and dampened his hopes of making a career in Hollywood .

Production notes

The production company were Vitaphone and Richard L. Bare Productions distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures .

The film is part of the production of a series marketed by Warner Bros. as a one-reeler comedy series. In the early 1940s, Bare made the short film So You Want to Give Up Smoking, starring George O'Hanlon in the lead role of the awkward Joe McDoakes. This film, which hit theaters in 1942, was a huge hit, prompting Warner Bros. Bare to do other productions for the series. After the war ended, Bare signed a ten-year contract with Warner Bros. for further episodes of the series.
