Solène Durand (2012)

Solène Durand (born November 20, 1994 in Saint-Rémy ) is a French football player .

Club career

Solène Durand played since early childhood for two amateur clubs from her Burgundian home region, first in Varennes-le-Grand and then in Châtenoy-le-Royal . According to her own statement, she came to the position of goalkeeper already held there because she was a fan of Grégory Coupet at the time. In 2009, the talented 14-year-old was accepted into the youth center of Montpellier HSC , where she already made several appearances in the same season in the second women's team of the MHSC, which played for points in Division 3. As a result, she came into the field of vision of the French youth selection coaching staff at an early stage (see the section below). As early as 2011/12, she became the second goalkeeper behind Laëtitia Philippe in the women's team that played in the top French league - first league game in January 2012 - but was primarily used in Montpellier's U-19s.

In the 2012/13 season she even replaced Philippe as number one in the MHSC women's goal and played 14 of the 22 league games. However, this role did not last: Solène Durand guarded the goal in only 15 of the 88 point games in the following four years. After all, she was compensated for it from 2014 in the club cup competition , in which she and not Philippe regularly appeared; there she was in the final of the Coupe de France féminine with her teammates in both 2015 and 2016 . However, she did not win a title because Olympique Lyon had the upper hand in both finals - each with 2-1 and despite the initial leadership of the women from Montpellier.

When the club signed two more goalkeepers ( Méline Gérard and the American Casey Murphy ) in the summer of 2017 , Solène Durand drew the consequences and after eight years switched to a league competitor in Brittany in order to finally get regular match practice. At En Avant Guingamp , the coach was called Sarah M'Barek , and she had looked after the MHSC league eleven until 2013. This is one of the reasons why Durand immediately became the undisputed regular player and has not missed a single championship encounter there in her first two seasons.

National player

Solène Durand had gone through all the youth selection teams and, unlike in the club, was a regular player and also very successful. With the French B-girls (U-16 / U-17) she made 14 international appearances and became vice European champion in 2011 . A dozen games with France's female A-youth followed, including winning the European Championship title in 2013 . And with the U-20 juniors (a total of five games), she managed a third place at the 2014 World Cup in Canada , just like the year before under coach Gilles Eyquem .

Although Durand is not exactly tall for a goalkeeper at 1.71 m and had only played a few point games in Guingamp , the new national coach Corinne Diacre noticed her early on when she was rebuilding the French women's national team and called her to two friendlies in September In 2017 for the first time. Since then, she has been regularly considered in this group and was appointed as the third goalkeeper behind Sarah Bouhaddi and Pauline Peyraud-Magnin both in the French squad for the 2019 World Cup in her own country and for the Tournoi de France 2020 . She came to her first international match against the Netherlands. (As of March 10, 2020)
