Gilles Eyquem
Gilles Eyquem (born May 30, 1959 in Caudéran , now a district of Bordeaux ) is a former French football player who has worked as a coach since the end of his active career .
Career as a player
Gilles Eyquem began playing football in the club as a youth at SA Mérignac , before moving to the dominant club in the region, the Girondins Bordeaux , in 1976 . In the same year he won the Coupe Gambardella with their A-youth team ; the defender stayed at Bordeaux until 1982 and recorded 60 league appearances in the first division from the 1977/78 season , so he was more of a supplement than a regular. The Girondins ended up mostly only in the upper midfield of the league during these years - their most successful period only began in 1983 - so that third place in the 1980/81 final classification remained the best place in Eyquems career. Even in the national cup , he and his team did not get past two quarter-finals ( 1981 and 1982 ).
This was followed by a year at second division EA Guingamp , then from 1983 two seasons each with Guingamp's league rivals AS Cannes and Chamois Niort , who rose in 1987 . Gilles Eyquem, however, did not return to the upper house of football, but instead joined the SCO Angers , with whom he was still active in the second division. From 1989 he worked as a player- coach for the amateur club AS Cherbourg before he ended his time as a player in 1991.

Coaching
Gilles Eyquem returned from Cherbourg in the south-west of France, where he coached the SU Agen league team for eight years and also took care of the amateur club's youth department.
In 1999 he succeeded Philippe Bergeroo as technical director at the regional football association of Aquitaine and its subdivisions for Bordeaux and Gironde-Est. In addition, at the turn of the millennium he began to assist Bergeroo as an assistant coach in the French national teams of the B and A girls. In 2012, the national football association entrusted him with the main responsibility for the French U-19 selection. With this oldest group of young people , Eyquem won the European Championship title in his first year - a success that he was able to repeat with the female A-class in 2016 . France was also in the final at the U-19 European Championship 2017 , but this time lost. At the 2019 European Championships in Scotland, Eyquems players won the title again.
At the same time, he prepared the French U-20 women's selection from 2014 for the two-year junior world championships. These players, known as the Bleuettes (“the bläuchen”), usually came from the U19s, which he also looked after. Gilles Eyquem has not yet won a title with this team, but has made it into the top four women’s teams every time: Vice World Champion 2016 , third place in 2014 and - in front of a home crowd rather lacking in its own claims - fourth place in 2018 . Also with the U-20s - as with the U-19s since 2012 - his coaching assistant is the ex-international Sandrine Ringler . From August 2019 Eyquem will concentrate exclusively on the U-20.
