CI Solvent Red 27 is a red bisazo dye from the application class of solvent dyes . It is mainly used in biochemistry for staining triglycerides in cells.
properties
The fat-soluble substance has absorption maxima at a wavelength of 518 nm and at 359 nm. The coloration can thus be viewed and analyzed using phase contrast microscopy .
use
Solvent Red 27 is used, among other things, to display triglycerides in fixed cells. It can also be used to color protein-bound lipids fixed in paraffin . In this area it has largely displaced the dyes Sudan III and Sudan IV , as it stains the cells with a much more intense red. Before use, the powder must be dissolved in isopropanol , heated and diluted with demineralized water and then filtered. Furthermore, the cells must be fixed with formalin before the Solvent Red 27 solution is applied.
safety instructions
Solvent Red 27 is not classified as dangerous according to the GHS and does not require labeling. However, the substance should not come into contact with strong oxidizing agents . Since formalin is used as the fixing solution, all work steps that are correlated with this solution must be carried out under a hood .
