Somoskőújfalu is a Hungarian community in the county Salgótarján in Nógrád county .
geography
Somoskőújfalu extends over an area of 5.19 km² and is located north of the town of Salgótarján on the Slovakian border. The Tarján brook has its source in the municipality.
history
The first written mention was made in 1455.
A fire in 1833 destroyed 64 houses and the church. The church was rebuilt in the mid-18th century and restored in 1898.
At the beginning of the 20th century, mining became increasingly important in the life of the village and its surroundings.
With the Treaty of Trianon of June 4, 1920, the place was assigned to Czechoslovakia . In 1924 Somoskőújfalu and Somoskő were relinquished to Hungary by the Czechoslovak-Hungarian border commission from Czechoslovakia.
From 1977 to 2004 the place was part of the city of Salgótarján .
population
In 2011, 90.4% of the population was Hungarian, while 1.7% said they belonged to the Roma population group , 0.4% claimed to be Germans and 0.6% as Slovaks. (9.6% did not answer, some of the respondents stated two nationalities.) 75% of those questioned stated their religious affiliation as follows: Roman Catholic: 45.9%; Reformed: 2.3%; Evangelical: 0.7%; Greek Catholic: 0.2%; no religious affiliation: 24.9%

The place is the railway line 81 ( Hatvan - Salgótarján - Somoskőújfalu - ( Fiľakovo )) and on the national road 21 between Salgótarján and the border with Slovakia.
