Sondra Radvanovsky

Sondra Radvanovsky (born April 11, 1969 in Berwyn , Illinois ) is an American opera singer ( soprano ). She was particularly successful in Verdi operas, including as Elvira in Ernani , Leonora in Trovatore , Elena in I vespri siciliani , Elisabetta in Don Carlos and Amelia in the masked ball .

Life

Radvanovsky was born in the suburbs of Chicago and moved to Richmond, Indiana when he was 11 . In Richmond, she also appeared in an operatic role for the first time at the age of 21. Radvanovsky studied acting and singing at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles . She graduated from Tanglewood Music Center and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory . After she won the “National Council Auditions” of the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1995 , she was accepted into the “Lindemann Young Artist Development Program” of this opera house. Her teachers included Martial Singher , Ruth Falcon, and Diana Soviero .

Radvanovsky has sung at the most important opera houses in the world, such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (London), the Paris Opera , La Scala in Milan , the Vienna State Opera , the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the San Francisco Opera . For years she has sung important roles in her field in the Italian repertoire at the Metropolitan Opera , including Leonora in David McVicar's production of Il trovatore . In March 2016 Radvanovsky triumphed at the Met as Queen Elizabeth I of England in the opera Roberto Devereux by Gaetano Donizetti .

Her repertoire also includes the title roles in Bellini's Norma , Puccini's Suor Angelica and Tosca , Floyd's Susannah and Dvořák's Rusalka .

The tenor and theater director Plácido Domingo is one of their sponsors.

Radvanovsky is married and lives in the suburbs of Toronto .
