The landscape leads south to Eichelberg ( 379.1  m ) near Heimbach. A northern spur of the Sonnenberg, in the direction of Hausen, is called Rensberg , where on topographical maps a little north of its lettering, the heights 348.4  m and 346.5  m are recorded in almost the same place .

The Sonnenberg falls sharply towards the Rur ; from the summit down to the river (approx.  193  m ) near Hausen (Rurbrücke: 195.9  m ) there is a difference in altitude of around 200 m. The slopes above the Rur are characterized in places by pronounced slate rocks.
