particularities Sonnenbergwarte ( AT )

At 484  m, the Sonnenberg is the highest mountain in the Leithagebirge , a ridge on the border between Lower Austria and Burgenland .

At the summit of the Sonnenberg there is the Sonnenbergwarte, a border watchtower built during the Cold War and transferred here after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Today this 15 meter high metal tower can be climbed as a lookout tower and allows a panoramic view, in good weather until the change .

A hike to the summit of the Sonnenberg can be started from Eisenstadt and leads over the Gloriette to the summit in around one and a half hours. On the other hand, an ascent is also possible from Hornstein via the old forest road in less than an hour.
