Sophie Fessy Hormann

Sophie Fessy Hormann , also Sofie Fessy Hormann (born November 24, 1859 in Osterholz (Bremen) , † after 1921) was a German painter and sculptor .

Life

Not much is known about the life of Sophie Fessi Hormann. The artist is described in the literature as an autodidact. Her pictures are very rare today and hardly half a dozen are known. Her domain were mainly still lifes, landscapes and half-portraits. Her "transportable frescoes " sparked international attention, copies of which were acquired by the Albertinum in Dresden and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York , among others .

She lived and worked in Munich , where she was a member of the “Free Munich Artists” and later the “Independent” in the German Association of Artists . In 1893 she traveled to Paris for an art exhibition. In the southern part of the villa colony on Höhenberg in Feldafing , a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg , a villa was built for Hormann in 1921.
