Souls to Deny is the first music album of Suffocation after nine-year break, only the EP Despise the Sun appeared in the meantime.
History of origin
Since Suffocation didn't have a bass player when the album was recorded, Mike Smith and Terrance Hobbs took over the task . After the Despise the sun EP was recorded by Dave Culross , Smith returned to Suffocation as a drummer. For the album, the band got a record deal with Relapse Records , where the EP Human Waste was released in 1991 . A music video was produced for the song Surgery of Impalement . The band was able to win over Dan Seagrave for the cover design .
The song To Weep Once More is kind of a continuation of Jesus Wept , a song from the debut EP. The song critically deals with the Christian faith .
Following the release, Suffocation embarked on a headlining tour of the US in 2005 . In the opening act, among other things played Cryptopsy , Aborted and Despised Icon . In the summer of 2006 there was another US tour together with the US band Shadows Fall . A small European tour, during which the band also appeared as one of the headliners at the Up-from-the-Ground Festival, through Germany and some neighboring countries, followed.
Versions
The album was also released as a limited edition vinyl format of 100 clear vinyl, 400 blue vinyl, 500 white vinyl, and 1,000 plain black vinyl.
