Sparkasse (2009)

The former Sparkasse in Aplerbeck , a district of Dortmund , is an office and commercial building built between 1914 and 1915 according to a design by the official builder Wilhelm Stricker and listed (monument number A 0383) on the corner plot of Cologne-Berliner-Straße 31 / Lohoffstraße 10.

history

The building was built for the Sparkasse of the Aplerbeck office at that time . As a result of its incorporation in Dortmund in 1929, this was transferred to the Stadtsparkasse Dortmund . During the construction phase, the designing architect Wilhelm Stricker was called up for military service in the First World War in the spring of 1915 , which is why the continuation of the building, which began in 1914, was under the direction of the building authority's assistant Jungholt from the municipal building administration. The opening took place on September 17, 1915 at the then address Chausseestraße 31.

The monument is used today by the Dortmund City and State Library , which maintains the “Aplerbeck Branch Library” here. There is also a notary's office in the building.

description

The L-shaped building with 5 to 8  axes comes to a standstill with its main side of 18 meters wide, at a depth of 13 meters to Köln-Berliner-Straße. In addition to a basement , it has two full storeys and ends at the top with a hipped mansard roof , which was converted for residential purposes when it was built in 1915. At the end of the two wings there are side entrances and a staircase to the upper and top floors, set back to the side . The ground floor , which originally housed the Sparkasse , is accessed via a main entrance on the right on Köln-Berliner-Strasse, which is crowned by two sculptures on the left and right . The man on the right is pouring out a sack full of coins, the one on the left is squeezing interest from a savings account. To the right of the portal there is a stone with the inscription 1914 (year of the start of construction). The eight-axle and 25-meter-wide front to Lohoffstrasse is not interrupted by entrances (depth 11.7 meters). The exposed sides to the two adjacent streets are made of ashlar , the sides plastered and painted white. The base was made from Herdecker Ruhr sandstone , the rising storeys from Dürkheimer sandstone .
