The Special Pioneer Regiment 164 ( SpezPiRgt 164 ) is a regiment of the armed forces base . It is stationed in the Julius Leber barracks in Husum . The regiment specializes in the construction of field and field tank farms and pipelines.
The regiment was established from 2003. Soldiers from the disbanded Special Pioneer Battalion 174 from Dessau and the 2nd / Logistics Battalion 162 from Husum were absorbed into the new unit until June 31, 2006.
The regiment supports the Central Europe Pipeline System as well as the Northern European Pipeline System of NATO . The capabilities of the regiment for humanitarian and disaster relief are particularly relevant, also in the context of cooperation between civil and military agencies.
Since April 2016 soldiers of the regiment have been involved in the UN mission MINUSMA to stabilize the West African state of Mali.
