The Spieser is a 1651 m high mountain on the northern edge of the Allgäu Alps in the Oberallgäu district . It lies between the towns of Bad Hindelang in the southwest and Unterjoch in the northeast and forms a larger group with (depending on the number and nomenclature) up to three secondary peaks (Ornach, Jochschrofen, Hirschberg). The rock summit facing Hindelang west of the Hirschbachtobel with the cellar wall is also called Hirschberg , but does not belong to the group.
The Spieser is not an outstanding peak, but a hiking mountain that can be climbed without great difficulty. Due to its location on the Ostrachtal , it offers a remarkable view of the Upper and Eastern Allgäu Alpine foothills as well as the Allgäu mountains to the Lechtal Alps . It belongs to the nature reserve Grünten, Großer Wald, German Alpine Road and Wertachtal . There is a small ski area with two lifts on its northern flank.
Ascents and paths
Hiking trails
The ascent is possible from different sides. From the district of Obergschwend between Oberjoch and Unterjoch via the ski slope and the Spieserkar, access is possible in about one and a half hours. From Oberjoch you can get directly to the summit via the Hirsch-Alpe and the Steinpaßsattel. The tour from Oberjoch over the Ornachkreuz is also possible. The combination tour with the Wertacher Hörnle is also very popular.
Ski touring
The Spieser is also a popular peak for ski tourers , even if it is not as heavily frequented as the neighboring Wertacher Hörnle. The ski tours are essentially based on the hiking trails. There are also tours through the forest to the Jochschrofen. The western slopes of the Jochschrofens to the Spieserkar are endangered by avalanches.
