The Wertacher Hörnle is a 1695 m high mountain on the northern edge of the Allgäu Alps between the towns of Bad Hindelang and Wertach in the Oberallgäu district . It forms the geographically highest point of the community Wertach and together with the Spieser and its better-known neighbors to the west, the Grünten , in the conservation area Grünten, Big Forest, German Alpine Road and Wertachtal .
The Wertacher Hörnle is not an outstanding summit, but a hiking mountain for the whole family that can be climbed without great difficulty and offers a remarkable view of the Upper and Eastern Allgäu Alpine foothills and the Allgäu mountains. The mountain is particularly impressive around June and July when the alpine roses are in bloom . The summit area is characterized by the Hörnlesee, which is idyllically situated in a crater-like hollow. The ascent of the Wertacher Hörnle is "also possible with small children".
Ascents and paths
Hiking trails
The ascent can take place from different sides. From the district of Obergschwend between Oberjoch and Unterjoch via the Buchel-Alpe, it can be done in around one and a half hours. From Oberjoch you can get to the Wertacher Hörnle via the Hirsch-Alpe and a detour to the Spieser . From the north the starting point is the Großer Wald car park on the road between Wertach and Kranzegg. From there you need about two hours to the summit, first of all via the Königsstrasse and other well-developed alpine paths to the Alpe Schnitzlertal at an altitude of 1,440 meters.
Ski and snowshoe tours
The Wertacher Hörnle is one of the "most popular pre-Alpine peaks in the Allgäu" for ski tourers . Its ascent is already marked in early winter. The mountain is considered an ideal beginner's tour. The mountain is just as suitable for snowshoeing .
