description
The small village of Spindelwag is located about three kilometers southwest of Rot an der Rot on the state road 300. The Ellbach flows through the district . Since the 15th century it has essentially belonged to the core area of the Rot an der Rot monastery . Spindelwag was first mentioned as an allod of the monastery around 1182. Remains of the hill fort Dietenberg are in the area .
The monastery had had a mill in the village since 1476 and later a sawmill as a Leiblehen , with a total of fifty Jauchert land. Another mill, the Kesselsteigmühle , was located a little outside the village, in what is now the Hammerschmiede settlement.
After the abolition of the monastery and submission to the state sovereignty of the Kingdom of Württemberg, the place remained with the patrimonial superior bailiff office Rot an der Rot. Later it came to the Oberamt Leutkirch . In addition to Oberopfingen , Spindelwag had the lowest trade tax revenue in the Oberamt Leutkirch. In 1939 it came to the Biberach district.
In 1969 the place was given a coat of arms. On July 1, 1971, Spindelwag was incorporated into Rot an der Rot.
In 2011 Spindelwag has a pallet manufacturer from the Paletten aus Rot an der Rot association , an inn , a carpenter's shop and several agricultural businesses. The place has its own fire brigade. The old mill is registered as a cultural monument.
