Berlin-Spindlersfeld
Spindlersfeld is a location in the Berlin district of Köpenick in the Treptow-Köpenick district , which arose from a factory settlement of the W. Spindler company . Spindlersfeld is located on the left bank of the Spree below the confluence with the Dahme between the Oberspree von Niederschöneweide settlement and the Köllnische Vorstadt .
history
The history of Spindlersfeld begins with the establishment of a large branch of the W. Spindler company on the Köpenicker Feldmark by Wilhelm Spindler and his sons. They called the area opposite the old town of Köpenick Spindlersfeld - but the name was not yet official. Before the manor district of Köpenick was handed over from the Brandenburg provincial government to the city of Köpenick, the city of Köpenick decided in spring 1873 that the area should not have a separate name. However, after the death of their father, Spindler's sons vigorously advocated keeping the name Spindlersfeld. They argued that at the time the Spindler company was known nationwide as W. Spindler - Laundry, Dyeing and Dry Cleaning - Berlin C and Spindlersfeld near Coepenick , Spindlersfeld was developing into a fully fledged district and should therefore also have its own name. On December 29, 1873, the Brandenburg provincial government confirmed the name Spindlersfeld .
In parallel to the construction of the large laundry, Spindler also built a workers' settlement with buildings in Mentzelstrasse and Färberstrasse, the so-called Spindlerbauten (originally: Werksiedlung Spindler), of which two buildings from 1887 on Färberstrasse and four buildings from 1873 and one in Mentzelstrasse 1875 have been preserved. Up to 50 working-class families found inexpensive apartments there in the direct vicinity of the factory. This workers' settlement was the first in Berlin to be created by an industrial company. Today the Spindler buildings are under monument protection . From the end of the 2010s, the historic factory site is to be redesigned into a new residential area, the Wasserstadt Spindlersfeld , by 2025 according to the urban development plan decided by the Berlin Senate .
On April 1, 1892, the Schöneweide – Spindlersfeld branch line , which originated from the Görlitzer Bahn and was financed by the company W. Spindler, opened. The S-Bahn now operates the route from Schöneweide station via Oberspree station to the final stop at Spindlersfeld station .
