Spiroxamine is a mixture of several isomeric chemical compounds from the group of spiroketalamines .

Extraction and presentation

Spiroxamine, by reaction of 4- tert -butylcyclohexanone with racemic 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol and subsequent substitution of the chlorine by ethylpropylamine be obtained.

Synthesis of spiroxamine

properties

Spiroxamine is a beige liquid. Its water solubility changes between pH 3 and 9 between very soluble (> 200 g / l) and soluble (≤ 0.5 g / l). It is stable to hydrolysis at pH 5, 7 and 9 and stable to photolysis . The compound consists of two diastereomers , the technical product having a mixing ratio of about 50:50 of the two diastereomers.

use

Point of attack in ergosterol biosynthesis

Spiroxamine is used as an active ingredient in crop protection products. It is a systemic fungicide that inhibits the biosynthesis of sterols in fungi. It was launched by Bayer in 1997 .

In 1999, the EU Commission granted active substance approval for use as a fungicide, which was renewed in 2011. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plant protection products with this active ingredient are approved.
