history

On the site of today's church, a hospital and a church were donated by the Bruneck citizen Konrad Stuck as early as the 14th century. The church, consecrated in 1381, existed until the 18th century. Building description

From the outside, the northern façade on Kapuzinerplatz stands out particularly. It is structured by pilasters , has a portal flanked by columns, sculptural niches (in the middle the figure of St. Anthony ) and a volute gable . On the right side of the nave is the tower with its octagon and onion dome . At the choir with a polygonal end there is a sacristy extension , which today serves as a residential building.

Inside, the retracted choir and the nave are covered by barrel vaults with stitch caps , which are decorated with rich stucco work by Anton Jakob Delai. The vault frescos depict scenes from the life of John the Baptist , while there is a Pentecost picture in the choir. Faith, hope and love are depicted on the choir arch, to the left and right of them the pious and the worldly soul. The high altar picture depicts the baptism of Christ and was made by Franz Sebald Unterberger around 1760, who also created the picture of St. Elisabeth on the right side altar. St. Notburga by Johann Georg Dominikus Grasmair around 1750 can be seen on the left side altar . The figures of the apostles Peter and Paul on the high altar are works by Johann Georg Silly. Popular piety is served by a crucifix on the nave wall from around 1700. The organ on the swinging gallery was built by Franz Weber in 1859 .

The former sacristy has a stone-framed rectangular door and baroque stucco ceilings on the first and second floors .
