The Spitzenberg-Schießplatz Rothenstein-Borntal nature reserve is located in the area of the city of Jena and in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It extends south of Jena and west of the core town of Rothenstein . The A 4 runs north of the area, the B 88 runs east and flows the Saale . State road L 2309 runs along the southwestern edge .
