Athletics:

The Sportpark Nord is a sports facility in Ahlen in the Westphalian Münsterland in the Warendorf district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The stadium is the venue for numerous national, national and local championships and competitions. With its many adjacent places and facilities, it is a sports facility specializing in all-around championships in athletics and also a state performance base for handball players .

history

In the mid-1970s, the city of Ahlen decided to build a sports center in the north of Ahlen around Theresienhof , including the old Westfalia stadium .

A section of the sports park could already be used in 1981: the cinder area at the Don Bosco elementary school with a 120 meter long plastic track along with a small plastic playing field and the long jump facilities. The stadium with round tracks and side places such as the pitchers field was completed at the beginning of 1982. The opening took place on Wednesday, July 6, 1983, with a friendly match between Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and a selection of cities.

In addition to club sports festivals such as Mammutiade , Jedermannzehnkampf, district and state championships as well as district and state school sports festivals , German athletics championships are also regularly hosted .

German athletics championships have been held at regular intervals since 1982, and in 1986 and 1989 even two championships in one year.

In September 2005, Ahlen went down in the history of the German Athletics Association (DLV) because a DLV championship was held for the twentieth time, something that no city has been able to claim about itself to date. The 25th championships were reached in June 2011.

Sports facilities

The many sports facilities offer space for numerous sports and clubs.

Stadion

The stadium has eight circular and eight sprint tracks and is therefore a "Type A" competition venue with a grandstand that offers covered seating. There is space for 10,000 spectators. In 2007 the synthetic membrane was renewed. After the drinking water pipes and the women's sanitary facilities were completely renewed in 2011, the grandstand roof, the other sanitary facilities and the shooting range in the catacombs, which were used by archers , Vorhelmer and Ahlen sport shooters , were renovated in 2012 .

Auxiliary systems

The throwing field offers space for four shot put systems , a javelin throw sector and a discus and hammer throw ring. There are more throwing rings, long jump facilities and sprint lanes on the other side courses such as Duisburgplatz , Theresienwiese and the Don-Bosco - Aschenplatz, named after the elementary school - with a 120-meter-long plastic track and a small plastic playing field.

Sports field 2 was provided with artificial turf and new drainage in 2010 in order to increase the possibilities for use in winter.

Sports field 3 (KR) has a capacity of 1,000 seats.
