Sports patent

The sports patent is one of the four Rhine patents according to the international regulation on ship personnel on the Rhine . It entitles the owner to drive sports vehicles less than 25 meters in length on the Rhine . It is required for vehicles over 15 meters in length and with a prime mover of more than 3.68 kW (5 HP). A sports license is required on the sections of the Rhine between the Iffezheim lock and the Spyck ferry that require the route , but will only be granted for the section for which the route is proven in the test.

The applicant must be at least 18 years old, physically and mentally fit, as well as capable of character and technical skills to drive the corresponding vehicle and a crew. The professional qualification must be proven by successfully passing the theoretical and practical examination. In doing so, holders of qualifications that are partially recognized as equivalent can be waived corresponding parts of the examination.

Germany

The suitability is to be proven by a medical certificate from the occupational health service, the character suitability by a police clearance certificate. The possession of the sport boat license inland exempts from the practical test. The sports patent is granted by the Waterways and Shipping Directorates West, Southwest and South.

A sports patent issued in Germany includes the sports boat certificate E for comparable vessels on the inland waterways of the federal government, insofar as no route certificate is required.
