Traditional ship license

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Traditionsschifferschein (TSS) is an additional entry in the Sportseeschifferschein (SSS) or in the Sporthochseeschifferschein (SHS). This additional entry entitles the owner to operate traditional ships . The traditional ship license can be seen as an extension of the Sportseeschifferschein and the Sporthochseeschifferschein.

Qualification

With the traditional ship license it is allowed to operate traditional ships up to a hull length of 55 meters and with a crew of more than 25 men in the area of validity of the SSS or SHS.

  • The additional entry Traditionsschiffer entitles the owner of an SSS to operate traditional ships with a length of more than 25 and less than 55 meters within the scope of the SSS. The crew may exceed 25 people.

There is only one additional entry for SSS and SHS. If you first acquire the additional entry in the SSS and then an SHS, you acquire the above-mentioned authorizations to operate traditional ships within the scope of the SHS. In this case, no further additional entry is made in the SHS. The holder of the certificates has the SHS and the SSS (for the additional entry) with him as proof of his traditional skipper authorization.

variants

There are two possible entries in the SSS or SHS:

  • Ability to operate traditional ships
  • Qualification as a machinist on traditional ships (either under steam or under motor).

Acquisition

The training should take place mainly during the sailing times on traditional ships, parts are also possible on lay-up ships, including shipyard stays, and also in separate courses. For this purpose, numerous evidence of experience (from the field of ship management, seamanship, ship care, etc.) must be provided within four years, which are defined in a binding list. Once this proof of experience has been provided in full, it is presented to an examination committee. This decides whether the applicant receives the additional entry in the respective certificate.
