General radio operating certificate (LRC)

The general radio operating certificate (abbreviation: LRC , from English Long Range Certificate ) is a German radio operating certificate .

authorization

The general radio operating certificate entitles the skipper to participate in the mobile maritime radio service and the mobile maritime radio service via satellites on pleasure craft and ships that are not subject to radio equipment requirements and is required for the skipper as soon as a GMDSS -compatible short or border wave marine radio system or an Inmarsat satellite system is connected Board is. The certificate complies with the requirements of Article 47 of the Radio Regulations ( ITU Radio Regulations ) and is internationally valid.

Requirements and exam

Requirements for the acquisition are a minimum age of 18 years and knowledge of the English language.

The process of the radio tests of the LRC includes all test components of the German radio operating certificate with limited validity , plus an additional one of 12 questionnaires with 14 questions from a public questionnaire on the subject of Inmarsat and Grenzwelle / Kurzwelle, which must be answered in the multiple choice procedure . There is also a practical test on simulation software. If a German radio operating certificate (SRC) with limited validity is already available, an additional test is sufficient in which the SRC components are not queried again. An SRC of the Royal Yachting Association is currently not the basis for an additional examination, i. H. the owner of a RYA-SRC must take a complete examination.

The LRC part of the test is taken at a suitable test facility. This can e.g. B. be a simulation running on a PC network, but also a simulator for commercial shipping . You are required to make all necessary devices operational on the virtual bridge . (Grenzwelle / Kurzwelle, Inmarsat C , Navtex , GPS ). In most cases, only Inmarsat C is tested, as the procedures for limit wave / short wave are identical to the VHF part of the test. As a rule, an emergency alert has to be sent there , a telex or fax has to be sent, the address book has to be edited and other functions explained. Since October 1, 2018, Inmarsat B is no longer part of the LRC exam.

The theoretical part of the examination is considered passed if at least 11 of 14 achievable points have been achieved within 20 minutes of answering the questions in the questionnaire used in the examination.
