history

The Spvgg emerged in 1934 from the Rommelshausen gymnastics club (founded in 1907) and the Rommelshausen strength sports club (founded in 1908). The Rommelshausen gymnastics club was banned by the National Socialists on June 24, 1933 , as it had social democratic origins. The weight training club was dissolved, but like the gymnastics club, it was incorporated into the Spvgg. First chairman of the new Spvgg was the previous chairman of the strength sports club, Eugen Sommer. Shortly after the merger, the club received a sports field and in 1936 a gym, which, however, burned down in a bomb attack during the night of March 2nd to 3rd, 1944.

Under the guidelines of the American occupation forces , a sports and cultural association (SKV) was founded after the Second World War, to which, in addition to the Spvgg, the music and singing association also belonged. In 1947, the SKV dissolved and the clubs became independent again.

In 1949 the burned down gymnasium was rebuilt and inaugurated with a sporting event on September 3rd and 4th, 1949. In 1949 , one year after its founding, the table tennis club joined the Spvgg. In 1950 the athletics department was established. In 1957 the playing area of the sports field was converted into a hard court .

Construction of the stadium began in 1972. The inauguration of the Saint Rambert Stadium took place in September 1974. The stadium was named after the twin town of Saint-Rambert-d'Albon . Subsequently, new departments such as volleyball, swimming, chess, karate and the Monday leisure group were created. In 1983 the 75th anniversary of the club was celebrated with a parade and other celebrations that lasted three days. In the years 1986 to 2008 the departments cardiac sports , badminton , women's football and bike sports were added. In 2008, the Spvgg celebrated its 100th anniversary. In the period from June 12th to 16th, 2008 the celebration including the parade took place. The highlight was the appearance of the Spider Murphy Gang . In addition, a football match between the men's team of Spvgg and the traditional team of VfB Stuttgart took place in the anniversary year. The women's soccer team played against the Bundesliga team of TSV Crailsheim .

The general meeting on March 13, 2009 was broken off at the point "New elections", as there was no successor to the previous chairman Otto Förstner. On April 24, 2009 Herbert Hagenlocher was elected 1st chairman at an extraordinary general meeting.
