Stéphane Azambre (born June 30, 1969 in Grenoble ) is a former French cross-country skier and biathlete .

Stéphan Azambre first took part in competitions of the cross-country skiing world cup in December 1991 . His first race was a classic 10 kilometer race in Silver Star , in which he was 59th. A month later, he not only won his first World Cup points, but also ran in Cogne as seventh over 15 kilometers of freestyle for the first time among the top ten. It should remain the Frenchman's only top ten result in the World Cup. At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , Azambre was used in four races. In the 10-kilometer race he reached 43rd place, over 50 kilometers he was 50th, 38th in the pursuit and eighth in the relay competition. The next major event was the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1993 in Falun . The best result in four races was 21st in the pursuit. In 1994 he started in Lillehammer for the second time at the Olympic Games. Over ten kilometers, the Frenchman was 54th, he did not finish the pursuit race and with the relay Azambre reached tenth place. The last major event was the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , where 21st place over 50 kilometers freestyle was the best result. After the 1995/96 season, Azambre switched to biathlon after more than 20 World Cup appearances and a victory in an FIS race in Brusson in 1995 .

Azambre initially took part in the European Cup at the biathlon and was able to achieve successes very quickly. In the overall ranking of the 1997/98 season , the Frenchman finished sixth. He made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen in 1998 and reached 61st place in the individual. 1998/99 was his most successful year. In the first race of the season, an individual in Hochfilzen, he achieved his first points with fourth place and his first result in the top ten. Two more top ten placements followed, even if fourth place remained the best result of his career. In the overall standings, he finished 30. At the Biathlon World Championships in 1999 in Kontiolahti , he was 29th in the sprint, 43rd in the pursuit and 12th with the relay. In the individual, which had been relocated to the Holmenkollen in Oslo due to the weather , he reached 49th place. In the following season , Azambre could not build on his successes of the previous year and did not win points in any of the races. Also at the Biathlon World Championships in 2000 he was only used in the sprint, where he could not qualify for the pursuit as 66th. After the season he ended his career.
