St-Étienne (Boussières)
Saint-Étienne Church is a parish church in the commune of Boussières in the Doubs department in the Franche-Comté region of France , originally built in the 11th century. Since 1913 the church has been protected as an architectural monument ( Monument historique ).
history
From the 11th century church, only the bell tower remained. In 1737 the old nave was replaced by a new building.
architecture
Bell tower
The 11th century bell tower is one of the few remains of Romanesque architecture in Franche-Comté. It has five floors and a height of 32 meters. It is decorated with arched friezes and pilasters . In 1829 it was given a hood covered with colored bricks.
Portal porch
The portal porch with three arched openings was built in 1574. It is covered with stone slabs and is supported by mighty buttresses .
