St-Julien (Boulbon)
The Saint-Julien Catholic Chapel in Boulbon , a French commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region , was built in the 12th century. The chapel has been a protected cultural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1941 .
The chapel is located three kilometers northeast of the village in an oak forest.
architecture
The single-nave chapel is divided into two bays . It opens to a choir in the east , which is semicircular on the inside and polygonal on the outside . It is covered with a broken barrel, which is underpinned by belt arches . The triumphal arch rests on two carved consoles . One console shows a lion devouring prey, the other a bull. The only ornament on the apse is a cornice on which the girders rest.
The facade is structured by three powerful buttresses . Under the roof approach a cornice proceeds with corbels .
