history

In the 6th century, according to legend , Saint Leonorius, born in Wales , who was brought up there in a monastery and ordained a bishop, settled in the deserted and wooded area near the mouth of the Ranca . There he and his companions founded a monastery around which the place originally called Pontual developed. After his death, Leonorius was buried in the church in a Gallo-Roman sarcophagus.

The current church was built in the 11th century on the site of the monastery founded by Leonorius. The north transept was added at the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th century and the south transept in the 15th century. The south aisle was completed in 1686, which is reminiscent of the inscription "MR LEMAISTRE RECTEUR 1686" above the south portal. At the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century the choir and the north aisle were rebuilt. After the new parish church was consecrated in 1884, the old church was given up. In 1954 it was repaired and rededicated.
