Saint-Martin in Rustroff
Pietà from the 16th century

The Catholic parish church of Saint-Martin in Rustroff , a French parish in the Moselle department in the historic Lorraine region , was originally built at the end of the 13th century. The church has a stained glass window from the 15th century.

history

A church in Rustroff has been handed down as early as the 10th century. In a document dated December 22, 1158, Duke Matthias I of Lorraine left the church to the Abbey of Bouzonville . The Gothic church was built between 1270 and 1320, of which the choir and the tympanum of the portal are still preserved. The two side chapels, Saint Eloi in the north and Notre-Dame in the south, were built between 1431 and 1435. The nave was renewed in the neo-Gothic style in the middle of the 19th century and the bell tower was built in 1870/71 .

Two-pane windows from the 15th century

When the church was rebuilt in the 19th century, the preserved windows from the 15th century were built into the western window of the Saint Eloi chapel. The two panes represent the Visitation of Mary (above) and the Annunciation of the Lord (below). Above them are the coats of arms of René I , who donated the two side chapels.

The 20th century windows were made from boxes by local artist Jean Engel in the stained glass workshops “Frères Linster” ( Mondorf ) and “Vitraux d'art de Lorraine” ( Nancy ).

organ

The organ was installed in 1901 by Franz Staudt in Puttelange . The instrument was last restored in 1990 by the organ builder Michel Gaillard. It has stops on two manuals and a pedal. The actions are pneumatic.
