St-Pierre-ès-Liens (Colon Cell)
The Catholic Church Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens (German St. Peter in Chains ) in Colonzelle , a French parish in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was built in the second half of the 12th century. The church has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 2009 .
history
The church, Saint Peter (in chains) dedicated , stands alone in the countryside between Colonzelle and Margerie on the D 231. It was formerly called Saint-Pierre de Margerie. The church was initially under the priory of the Cluny Abbey in Pont-Saint-Esprit and came into the possession of the Bishop of Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux in the 14th century .
architecture
The church has a nave with two yokes which is followed by a semicircular choir followed. Mighty buttresses support the nave. The choir still preserves medieval wall paintings, which, among other things , depict the apostles , Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene , Daniel in the lions' den and the adoration of the Magi .
Many stonemason marks made of dot patterns, Latin capital letters and geometric figures frame the windows and doors.
South portal
The south portal , which is now closed, has a tympanum , the medallion of which is surrounded by reliefs reminiscent of a bestiary . The lintel consists of a limestone block that comes from a Roman funerary monument .
