The Catholic Church of Saint-Pierre in Vert-la-Gravelle , a district of the municipality of Vert-Toulon in the Marne department in the French region of Grand Est , is a Romanesque church from the 12th century. In 1934, the church consecrated to the Apostle Peter , in the wall paintings from the 15th / 16th centuries. Exterior construction

The unadorned, square bell tower is pierced on all four sides by narrow arched openings. The arched portal is cut into a narrow wall protrusion on the west facade. It is framed by archivolts and slender pillars decorated with capitals .

The church consists of a three-aisled nave with four bays , a choir bay covered with a groin vault on which the choir tower rests, and an irregular apse closed on three sides . The sacristy is connected to the choir in the north and a patronage chapel in the south , which was built in the 16th century in the Flamboyant Gothic style . The choir and bell tower are not on one axis with the nave, so there is a kink in the main axis . The apse is covered with a dome and is illuminated by arched windows. The windows are surrounded by archivolts resting on strong, profiled fighters . At the central window the fighters rest on double pillars, at the side windows on simple pillars. The capitals - similar to the capitals on the portal - are decorated with stylized leaves and geometric decorations.

Longhouse

The two-story long house, which was never vaulted, has a wooden ceiling. It is structured by ogival arcades , which are supported by mighty columns with square striker plates. The fighters have coarse sculptural jewelry on their protruding corners. The walls of the central nave are broken through by small, arched windows.

Murals

There are murals on the columns and walls in the nave, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. Century. The scenes depict saints and their martyrdom. One scene presumably depicts Saint George defeating the dragon.
