St-Vincent (Les Baux)
The Catholic Church of St-Vincent in Les Baux , a French parish in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region , was built in the 12th century. The church has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1886 .
history
The church consecrated to St. Vincent was built for a priory from the 12th century . In 1481 St-Vincent became the parish church of Les Baux.
architecture
The difficult-to-access terrain explains the church's unusual floor plan, which is wider than it is long. The south aisle is carved into the rock and the choir head was extended by a yoke in 1609 . The church has an imposing portal , the arches of which are decorated with stylized leaves. A stone slab is attached to the facade in which a typical Provencal mythical creature ( Tarasque ) is engraved.
