St. Anna in Dinkelscherben

The Catholic parish church of St. Anna in the market town of Dinkelscherben in the Swabian district of Augsburg in Bavaria is a protected architectural monument .

history

Until 1507, Dinkelscherben was a branch of the parish of Steinekirch . Probably until 1530 there was a chapel consecrated to St. Anne , which is unknown and which was replaced by a new building. The core of today's church dates from the late Gothic period . It is said that 20,000 stones from the Wolfsberg castle ruins near Steinekirch were used for the construction . The tower was raised in 1566/80. The tower of the Moritzkirche in Augsburg can serve as a structural model . Parts of the interior frescoes from around 1575 have been preserved to this day.

In 1682 a sign was added . In 1717, under the master mason Simpert Kraemer from Edelstetten, the baroque style of the interior began. In addition, the nave was raised and a new roof structure was built. In 1743 the nave was given a new vault and larger windows. In 1770/71 the choir was redesigned under Joseph Bichlmayer from Holzheim . The altars and the pulpit were renewed, a new roof structure was built by the local master carpenter Raimund Kraus, and a sacristy was added. Renovations were carried out in 1839, 1889/90 and 1909. The last extensive exterior and interior renovation took place in 2008/09; security measures were taken on the roof and on the outer walls.

On October 13, 1978 the foundation stone for the new St. Simpert Church was laid and consecrated on December 16, 1979 by the diocesan bishop Josef Stimpfle . The cemetery surrounding the church was closed in 1919.

architecture

The single nave nave has a needle cap barrel and a retracted choir with a semicircular end. The tall, slim tower with a six-storey substructure without any structure ends with a two-storey octagon with steep pointed gables at the dome and is provided with an onion dome .

The stucco work in the nave vault and on the choir arch was made by Simpert Kraemer around 1717. The stucco in the choir was created in 1770 and is attributed to Johann Michael Hoiß from Apfeldorf . The wall and ceiling frescoes were painted by Joseph Christ from Augsburg in 1771 . They show in the choir the veneration of the altar sacrament and in the nave the proclamation, birth of Christ, offering in the temple and the twelve-year-old Jesus in the temple. Frescoes still preserved from around 1575 are exhibited in the parish center today.

The three altars, the pulpit and the choir stalls also date from around 1770. Some of them were redesigned and changed in the 19th century. The high altar painting depicting the church patroness St. Anna with Joachim and Maria was created in 1861 by Johann Kaspar from Obergünzburg . The old altarpiece, painted by the local artist Johann Rieger , is considered lost. The side altars show the figures of Maria Immaculata and St. Sebastian , both from the second half of the 18th century. A figure of St. Anna Selbdritt from the workshop of the sculptor Jörg Syrlin was created around 1505.

The pews in the nave were probably made by the Kistler Joseph Langenmaier from Steinekirch. On one cheek is the inscription: "IL 1717". The font from the second half of the 18th century is made of wood. There are over 30 grave plaques on the north and south walls. Behind the high altar is the sandstone epitaph of Canon Georg von Hürnheim († 1537) and the side altars are the epitaphs of Pastors Kerner († 1761) and Count († 1760).
