history

Philipp Dirsch, pastor of St. Anton, bought a field on Pettenkoferstraße in September 1951. The patronage goes back to the previous owner of the building plot Korbinian Augustin, who donated a third of the plot. In 1953 a first provisional kindergarten was built on the property. In June 1957 Joseph Schröffer , Bishop of Eichstätt, established the parish . The parish area was bounded by the Ingolstadt – Munich railway line , the Danube and the city limits of Ingolstadt. In March 1958 Wilhelm Reitzer was appointed curate of St. Augustin and in May 1958 the term of office of the first church administration began . In November 1958 a branch of the Niederbronn sisters was founded and the kindergarten was inaugurated. The provisional kindergarten was converted into an emergency church. On April 12, 1959, the foundation stone was laid by Cathedral Chapter Bernhard Mader . The architect of the church was Hans Zitzelsperger from Ingolstadt, the artistic equipment was carried out by Roland Friederichsen and the construction was carried out by Röß. On December 13, 1959, Joseph Schröffer consecrated the church and St. Augustin became the city parish. In 1960 the church tower and grounds were built. Vicar General Josef Heindl consecrated the five bells at the end of 1961. The Way of the Cross comes from Blasius Gerg and was cast by Despag, now Rieter . In 1985 the topping-out ceremony was celebrated in the St. Monika branch church center . On October 18, 1986, St. Monika was consecrated by Bishop Karl Braun . In 2011 Erich Schredl became local pastor and since February 1, 2019 he has also headed the parish of St. Canisius.
