Today's building

The parish church of St. Bartholomäus (also called Lower Church ) was the only Catholic church in Walting , a district of the market town of Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen , alongside the Church of the Assumption that still exists today . The church was profaned and is no longer recognizable from the outside as a former sacred building. The building with the postal address Walting 85 is registered under the monument number D-5-77-161-135 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list.

The church consecrated to the Apostle Bartholomäus stands below the main road at an altitude of 466 meters above sea level . The Assumption Church is about 200 meters as the crow flies in a north-easterly direction. The Bartholomäuskirche was the older of the two Walting churches. The current building is essentially medieval and was expanded from 1736 to 1741. In 1807 the church was closed due to dilapidation and in 1820 it was expanded into a school building. The altars were sold to Heideck and Schloßberg .
