history

After Catholic refugees and expellees had settled in Aerzen, which has been evangelical since the Reformation , as a result of the Second World War , a Catholic parish was formed. Initially, the nearest Catholic churches were St. Augustine in Hameln and St. Georg in Bad Pyrmont . In August 1946 a Catholic pastoral care center was set up in Aerzen, and in addition to Aerzen, it also included the villages of Dehmke , Dehrenberg , Groß Berkel , Grupenhagen , Königsförde , Laatzen , Multhöpen , Schwöbber and Selxen . Their church services in Aerzen initially took place in the Protestant Marienkirche .

In 1958, a church building association was founded by members of the Catholic men's association Aerzen. In 1962/63 the church was built by the then legally responsible diocese of Osnabrück . The foundation stone was laid in the summer of 1962 by the Hamelin dean Carl Hövelmann, and on June 30, 1963, the benediction by the Osnabrück cathedral capitular Josef Gerdts (1908–1967).

It was not until the Concordat between the Holy See and the State of Lower Saxony in 1965 that Aerzen became fully part of the Hildesheim diocese. The solemn consecration of the church by the Hildesheim bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen followed on September 21, 1968 .

Approximately in the 1990s was the last to parish of St. Boniface belonging Chapel of St. Mary in Griessem , a district of Aerzen , profaned . From May 1996 made St. Boniface with the Hamelin parishes of St. Elizabeth and St. Vizelin a Seelsorgeeinheit that to today's parish on 1 November 2006 St. Elizabeth merged.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built according to plans by the architect Josef Feldwisch-Dentrup ( Osnabrück ).
