description

The single-nave , south-east oriented, plastered quarry stone building with three-sided east end is 11.30 m long and 5.38 m wide. On the long sides there are two windows with basket arches that are framed in basalt lava . Both portals in the west and north also have basket-arched borders. There is a six-sided roof turret with a helmet on the slate-covered hipped roof .

The small choir area is raised by one step and is separated from the nave by a pillar template. There is a wooden gallery on the west side .

There is said to have been a chapel in Oberdürenbach as early as 1624. The current chapel dates from 1754. The quarry stone building is about eleven meters long and a little more than five meters wide. A cross with the body of Christ was placed on the street side of the chapel in 1898.

The high altar of the chapel dates from the 17th century. Between two rotated columns there are three niches of equal height in which there are figures of St. Cornelius, St. Barbara and the Queen of Heaven. In the years between 1891 and 1894, the small church was extensively renovated. The wall on the street side was underpinned, the roof and tower were re-covered. Work inside the chapel followed. The floor and windows were renewed and the walls repaired. In March 1896, 14 stations of the cross - a gift from the Niederzissen pastor - were installed.

The north side of the roof was renewed in the 1920s. The original bell had to be delivered in the Second World War. Only on March 7, 1993 was a new bell cast in Brockscheid consecrated. In 1954, bachelors from Oberdürenbach and the bishop had two memorial plaques made with the names of those who were missing and fallen from both world wars and had them placed inside the chapel. At the same time the external plaster was renewed, the walls were repainted inside. In 1978 heating was installed and the benches were equipped with seat cushions. The village and beautification association as well as other helpers provided the church with a new paint job in 1984. Further interior and exterior renovations were carried out in 1991 and 2018. The patronage of St. Cyprian given in some sources is uncertain. There is no evidence of any worship of Cyprian in Oberdürenbach.
