The St. Elisabeth Church in Besteheid (2015)

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Elisabeth in Besteheid , a district of Wertheim in the Main-Tauber district , was built in 1953. The St. Elisabeth Church has two namesake.

history

The parish of St. Elisabeth was founded approx. 3 km from the city of Wertheim, next to the glassworks settlement built by the glass industry in 1949. During the winter months of February and March 1952, people displaced from Hungary, Bohemia and Thuringia were resettled there from Reinhardshof. For nine months the services were held there in a dark, simple field tent. At Christmas 1952 an emergency church was built, in which the services were celebrated until the inauguration of the new parish church. On September 20, 1953, the foundation stone for a solid church was laid. On October 9th, the missionary bishop Augustinus Olbert consecrated the church.
