history

The Großrinderfelder parish church was built between 1775 and 1777 and is dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel . The former Gothic church was dilapidated and was demolished in favor of the new building. Only the basement of the bell tower and a Gothic cross of Christ from 1450, which can be found in the choir, have been preserved from the old church. The new church was built in the baroque style, with a semicircular apse choir. After fighting in World War II between Großrinderfeld and Tauberbischofsheim on Good Friday 1945, the parish church was turned into a hospital on the following Holy Saturday . On the Wednesday after Easter, the hospital was moved back to Tauberbischofsheim. There was no damage to the church building.

Michaelskirche is now part of the pastoral care unit Großrinderfeld-Werbach, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
