The Catholic parish church of St. Evermarus is a listed church building in Borth , a district of Rheinberg in the Wesel district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

A hall church from the 12th century with a retracted rectangular choir is proven to be the predecessor church . Bricks from a Roman ruins were found in the foundation masonry.

The two-aisled stepped hall made of brick was built in 1452 according to a lost building inscription. The hall is a bit older than the lower choir by a yoke with a 5/8 end. During a restoration in 1893, the western stair tower was added to the side aisle . The window tracery were renewed. The building was badly damaged in World War II and restored from 1956 to 1957. An east-facing extension was added to the south side of the Gothic church from 1977 to 1980 . The three-storey tower with a window niche portal and structures in Romanesque forms is in front of the main nave. Mesh vaults, otherwise ribbed vaults, were drawn into the main nave .
