The Protestant village church St. Georg is located in the Grabe district of the city of Mühlhausen / Thuringia in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1293. An extension with a baroque remodeling took place in 1744. In 1817 the church was extensively renovated .

Building description

The hall church has a little recessed choir tower in the east. On the north side there are profiled ogival windows with three axes , on the south side they are basket- shaped with oculi above . The tower has pointed arched windows with coupled sound arcades , above a pointed helmet . One bell was cast by Nicolaus Tuppenesser in 1448, another bell dates from the 16th century. The interior is spanned by an ogival barrel vault. There are two-storey galleries on three sides of the nave . Behind the pointed triumphal arch begins the choir , spanned by a ribbed vault , with rose windows in the walls . contains. On the north wall, the windows are decorated with stained glass , the templates of which come from Franz Müller .

Furnishing

The altar dates from the Middle Ages. The altarpiece , a triptych by Friedrich August Stüler , was made in the first half of the 19th century. Angels stand in its side niches, and the corresponding crucifix is made of metal. The pulpit is a 19th century work. The octagonal, tapering baptismal font made of travertine is from the Middle Ages.
