history

The origins of the parish probably go back to the 12th century. The pastors of the church have been known by name since 1455 . The patronage of St. George is mentioned for the first time in a tax book from 1671 . The current building was erected in the 18th century and the church was consecrated on June 20, 1790. In 1895 the church was enlarged and redesigned in the Nazarene style. In the course of further renovations in 1971/72, the sacristy and the vestibule were rebuilt. In 2003/04 further renovations followed, including the organ .

Building description

St. Georg is a hall structure structured by pilaster strips with a flat barrel and a drawn-in choir closed on three sides . The southern tower has a square, probably late medieval substructure with an octagon and an onion dome .

Furnishing

The nave fresco from 1795 is believed to be by Joseph Mangold the Elder . It shows the temptation and condemnation of St. George. In the coves there are medallions of angels making music and four images of priests. The baroque altars from the beginning of the 18th century come from the broken church of St. Jakobus d. Ä. in Nordendorf . The painting in the high altar shows the apostle James the Elder with the donor. Presumably this is Eva von Pappenheim († 1739). In the side altars the death of St. Joseph is depicted on the left and St. Sebastian in the medallion and on the right the glory of St. Barbara with St. Nepomuk in the medallion. The Way of the Cross from 1760 comes from Johann Anton Schweinhuber . The pictures of the 12 apostles on the west gallery were made around 1790. A stone slab with the names of all priests since 1472 is embedded in the back wall of the nave . In the northern outer wall there is a mount of olives .
