The Catholic parish church of St. Georg is a listed church building in Schliprüthen , a district of Finnentrop in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

Until 1186 the community belonged to the original parish of Wormbach . The small late Romanesque hall church belongs to the same type as the parish church in Dünschede , after which this type, which is very common in the region, is named. It has two square yokes with round pillars and dome-like vaults . The choir bay is narrow and has a semicircular apse . There are side apses in the very narrow aisles .

The parish of St. Georg Schliprüthen is part of the pastoral network of Bigge-Lenne-Fretter-Tal. It is assigned to the Dean's Office of South Sauerland and part of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

Furnishing

Most of the furnishings date from the 17th and 18th centuries. This includes:

  • an organ prospectus from 1681, alterations in 1768 and 1863/64, the historical inventory of the sound work largely preserved, last restoration 1988–1991.
  • Main altar, two-storey column retable from 1729/30, attributed to the workshop of Peter Sasse ,
  • Side altars from 1620/30 by the sculptor Heinrich Stratmann (Arnsberg).
  • Pulpit probably from Johann Sasse's workshop from 1680/90 and
  • a wooden figure of St. Catherine from the beginning of the 16th century, probably a work by the Sauerland master Petrus von Kolshusen.
  • In the west tower three bronze bells, cast by Petit & Edelbrock in 1949, tone sequence g sharp'-h'-c sharp ". In the roof turret a clover bell in c" ', ​​cast in 1752 by Fridericus Schweis.

The rear wall of the pulpit has a sound cover . It bears the ornate coat of arms of Jodokus Höying and his wife Elisabeth Fürstenberg, which are buried in front of the left side altar, underneath is an inscription cartouche that is empty or can no longer be read today.
